The Process
The process outlined below will be followed by Life By The Decades Incorporated to accurately and creatively tell the story of your life. You may choose to do your part of the process entirely on your own. If you need additional help, we can guide you along. Our hope is that you, along with many other loved ones, will be part of the enjoyment involved in choosing photos, writing captions, and carefully recounting the stories of your life. Developing a Plan
Each life is unique and our process will reflect this as we develop a plan to find the best way to tell your individual story. After you have chosen a package that suits your needs, we will meet with you to discuss your ideas and expectations regarding your Life by the Decades. We will provide the direction you need to start gathering photographs and mementos, and start telling your story.
Collecting the Photos
You will be given one envelope for each of the decades of your life to gather photos and other important items along with a Decade Master to keep a neat inventory of items. Your job will be the take the time you need to gather and organize your photos and mementos.
* photos may be submitted to us either digitally or as hard copies. Any photos you submit will be carefully scanned and returned to you in the same condition that we received them.
At this point in the process, you will be asked to complete a short survey about some of your favourite things and to share any interesting facts that will prove to be very intriguing to the readers of your story! You will also be asked to provide a detailed list of the birthdays of any children, grandchildren or great-children you may have. Other pieces of important information needed: A cover photo, preferably a portrait A memento to be used on page 1 of the book
(a medal, family crest, etc.) Photos to be used for the extra full photo pages Names of flag(s) you would like to be included as ‘bullets’ on the Did You Know? page.
* This may done entirely on your own or a representative from Life By The Decades Incorporated will sit with you and guide you through this part of the process.
Completing the Decade Masters
You will complete as much of the Decade Master that you can, including captions for each of the photos and a few paragraphs recounting the events of each decade. Then, you and one of our representatives, along with any other contributors to your book, will work together to ensure that all captions are clear and concise for each of the photos that will be included. Lastly, we will edit and complete the paragraphs to craft a mini-story about each decade.
Once we have determined the dominant photos, and have chosen a focus for each decade, our staff will begin the important task of transforming all of the text, photographs and/or mementos into visually pleasing, easy-to-read layouts for each of the decades of your life.
Printing
Life By The Decades Incorporated will proof read the book and prepare a draft copy for your approval. The final product will be professionally printed in full colour on high quality paper to ensure a long-lasting memory for you and your family.
The copies of your book will be delivered to you in approximately 10 – 12 weeks after the Layout & Design process has begun. Additional book(s) may be ordered after you have received your original order.
